The Cheering Kitchen and Norm Bourgeois Receive
The Andover Rotary Club "Citizens Who Care" Awards
For Rotarians, "service above self" is a trait each member puts forth.
The Andover Massachusetts’s chapter recognizes this quality in others.
The "Citizen’s Who Care" awards are given out annually to residents of
Andover and North Andover who exemplify volunteerism while remaining out of the spotlight.
Norman Bourgeois of North Andover and "The Cheering Kitchen" consisting of
Jaishree Deshpande, Malathi Ramgopal and Madhu Sridhar, of Andover were
honored for their service to Lazarus House Ministries.
We at Lazarus House have had the pleasure and honor to work with these wonderful people.
Norman Bourgeois, "Mr. Fix It" came to a service in our small chapel back
in 1988, and since that day he has spent countless hours sorting cans,
preparing meals, fixing holes in our walls, installing railings, and so much more.
As we built Corpus Christi House, fully renovating and restoring a Victorian for our
guests living with AIDS and HIV, Norm worked hard helping to create that
warm and loving environment that Corpus Christi is known by.
Today, Norm continues to come back to Lazarus House helping to
maintain our facilities that many call their home.
"The Cheering Kitchen" led by Jaishree Deshpande, Malathi Ramgopal and
Madhu Sridhar, came to Lazarus House teaching their children one of
life’s most valuable lessons "community service".
Beginning in 1996 they began their journey with us preparing home
cooked meals, both vegetarian and ethnic dishes.
Together they have shared their 5 children with our guests and
staff the first Saturday of every month.
They have joined our holiday giving programs, bringing gifts for
the children they cook for.
Their help has expanded into their communities teaching us all that if we each
do a little, so much can be accomplished.
We are pleased to see that others know of the goodness these talented individuals share with us.
Their generous spirits and loving hearts offer a caring touch to those they
have reached out to one we cherish each day.
Thank you all for you many hours of service offered to Lazarus
House Ministries and our entire community.
