13th Annual Hike for Hope Opening Doors Out of Poverty

The Hike for Hope was initiated in 1999 and is an annual event in October that begins and ends on the campus of Merrimack College and loops through Andover, MA. It is a family-centered event where Team leaders and Walkers raise funds with a 5-mile pledge walk. Throughout the day participants enjoy music, kid’s activities, festivities and a BBQ lunch after the event.
Proceeds from the hike go to the Capernaum Place, a transitional housing program, which provides the transition from a homeless shelter to a permanent home. Guests of the facility receive life skills and job training, job search assistance, childcare and support from a social worker to take the next step to independent living.
Whether this is your 1st or 13th year we thank you so much for participating in our Hike for Hope and raising much needed funds. With your help this year’s Hike for Hope will make a dramatic difference in the lives of our guests, particularly those participating in Capernaum Place, our transitional housing facility, and related education and work preparation programs.
The Hike for Hope goal is $250,000 so that together we can help more people in dire need help themselves. Our goal; one team, one school, one company, one church, one civic group, one family, and one walker at a time. We are also planning several fall festival activities that day, making the event even more fun for the whole family.
$2,000 funds a two-month work preparation internship
to gain essential on-the-job training
$1,000 subsidizes budgeting, financial literacy and
life skills workshops for 20 guests
$750 finances advocacy and case management
services for a family for two months
$500 supports one guest to become a
Certified Nursing Assistant by providing a scholarship,
uniform, books, test and license fees
$250 funds a workshop series for
10 teenagers to increase self esteem
and build leadership skills
$100 pays for some emergency
household items to set-up housing
for a new family
